Ben is an inventor, co-founder, and the CTO of the Massachusetts based GRIT, where he leads the design and manufacture of the off-road Freedom Chair. He is classically trained as an engineer and employs innovation best practices including stakeholder centered design, lead user theory, and eliciting latent customer needs. While Ben wears many hats at the startup, from tinkering to rapid prototyping, he most enjoys the journey of translating a user request into an engineered component that improves the Freedom Chair experience. Ben graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with an SB in Mechanical Engineering and went on to attain an MEng in Manufacturing. Additionally, Ben attended the Singapore University of Technology and Design for an MEng in Engineering Product Development. Ben has been working on mobility device design since 2009. He enjoys the many disciplines within bicycling and snowboarding including cyclocross racing and both bike and alpine touring.
