David J. Cohen, MD, MA
David J. Cohen, MD, MA is the Daniel Midler-John A Catsimatidis Professor of Nephrology (in Medicine) and the Medical Director of Kidney and Pancreas Transplantation at Columbia University Irving Medical Center/New York Presbyterian Hospital. New York, NY. He graduated from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and did his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at Mt Sinai Medical Center in NYC. He completed his Nephrology training at Columbia University, followed by a Research Fellowship in Transplantation and Immunogenetics at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston MA. He has been on the full-time faculty at Columbia University since 1983. He is a former member of the Board of Directors of the American Society of Transplantation, and served as the Chair of their Public Policy Committee for many years. He was the co-Editor of NephSAP Transplantation from 2019, 2011, 2013. Dr Cohen has served as a reviewer for Transplantation, American Journal of Transplantation, and several other journals. He received the 2005 National Medal of Excellence from the Kidney and Urology Foundation of America and was named a Ewig Clinical Scholar by Columbia University in 2008. He is on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Global aHUS Registry. His research interests include the clinical application of new immunosuppressive medications, live donor advocacy and improving access to kidney transplantation through reducing the number of kidney discards.
