Alex Berrios

Greetings, my name is Alex Berrios, and I am a 45-year-old man residing in Louisville, Kentucky. I am a one-time kidney transplant recipient currently seeking a second transplant.

My journey began in my mid-20s with high blood pressure, which led to the discovery that I was born with only one kidney—and it was failing. I was later diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder called IgA nephropathy, which eventually damaged my transplant after 13 years.

I have worked in the kidney health field for nearly a decade. My experience includes volunteering with the National Kidney Foundation and serving as a patient advocate for the transplant program at the University of Kentucky. I’ve also had the opportunity to speak at various patient roundtable discussions focused on all aspects of kidney disease.

Outside of advocacy, I’m a family man with two children—my daughter Abigail, 14, and my son Zander, 9. I enjoy watching baseball, all kinds of sports, movies, and listening to podcasts.

I’m excited to be part of this conversation and to share my kidney journey and knowledge with the TransplantLyfe community.
