Veggie Wrap


If you’ve ever seen the show Gilmore Girls, then you understand how I have brought the feeling of community and fresh foods to the hamlet of Jamesville. I grew up in a small town in Massachusetts and during my twenties spent time working at a bistro on Martha’s Vineyard. Here, I was first was introduced to the idea of “farm to table.” Bringing local produce from farms in the area to the food on the table for customers. Fast forward to leaving the Vineyard, and becoming involved in education for 30 plus years. Food and fresh produce always being a passion but not a career. Upon retiring from education, I decided to pursue my love of cooking and baking by selling my products at the Cazenovia Farmers Market in Cazenovia NY. While these vendors were providing their goods to the public, behind the scenes many of the businesses shared their products with each other. This lead to the creation of many friendships and availability of fresh produce. A year later, my dream of owning my own establishment became a reality. The Half Moon Bakery & Bistro was on it’s way! There was no question that I would include my farmers’ and small business owners’ products in my shop. I strive to bring back the Martha’s Vineyard feel daily, creating a mainly farm to table menu and bringing local goods to my shop for the the public to purchase. Supporting a whole foods mentality so that many can enjoy fresh and yet maintain a healthy eating lifestyle!

In a world of GMOs, artificial flavorings and overly processed foods, I bring local taste and whole foods to my menu items. In the bakery, all items are homemade and some items are available only seasonally. In the Bistro, menu items include heirloom tomatoes (in season), local lettuce/greens, locally produced goat cheese, organic granola, and locally collected honey.

So what’s on the menu today?

The Half Moon Veggie Wrap. This is a classic. It can easily be made with our gluten-free tortilla wrap and is also a vegan item. The basic wrap is made with shredded carrots, heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers and lettuce from Mountain Grown Farms (in season), our homemade corn, black eyed pea and black bean relish, and hummus. If you wish to have more protein, add in cheddar, swiss or goat cheese, and/or sliced turkey. The Gluten Free wrap is made on an all-vegetable wrap. The vegan selection also can contain Seasoned Tofurkey and Veganaise. This sandwich choice is very versatile. Some have added in banana peppers, red peppers, onions and olives!
